The Dane County Vital Records office only contains records for events that occurred in Dane County. Viewing vital records at no cost is permitted at the Dane County Register of Deeds office. Individuals who wish to view public vital records must call to schedule an appointment, as searching space is limited. Please call (608) 267-8810 during regular business hours to schedule an appointment.
Appointments are scheduled for 2 hour time slots on Monday thru Thursday from either 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
People who wish to view records must fill out a searching form at the vital records counter, if one is not already on file for the current year.
You will be asked to read and abide by the
State of Wisconsin Administrative Code Conditions for Users of Vital Records Area (DHS 142.07)
Each time you visit, you will be required to sign in and provide the first and last names for which you will be searching during that visit.
Birth and death records are available as early as 1876, and marriage records as early as 1839.
